How does doing yoga make you feel?
Yoga makes me feel refreshed and rejuvenated! An increased sense of vitality and deep sense of connection is the result of regular and dedicated practice.
How long have you been doing yoga?
I have been practicing Yoga for over 10 years and teaching it for 7 years.
Why did you start doing yoga?
I was inspired by my Mother who raised me to respect the ancient texts and philosophy of Yoga from a young age. As part of my education I was encouraged to practice asana. Bring raised in a holistic household there was a strong focus on an understanding of the body through Yoga.
What is your favorite type of Yoga? Which type are you best at?
My favorite type of Yoga is Iyengar Yoga… this is also what I am best at. As I continuously grow my knowledge, I am interested in many other forms such as Karma, Yin and Sahaja Yoga.
What don’t you like about yoga (if anything)?
I am thinking hard about this one, but truly can’t think of something I do not like about Yoga! Maybe one thing I dislike is the Western focus on image in Yoga. It brings a level of superficiality to the practice that simply does not belong and negates the main premises of the Yogic tradition.
What do you love about yoga?
I love that Yoga is not just asana (poses)- with regular practice I’ve become more attuned to the subtle energies and able to align my inner core with the external environment. Yoga is so much more than physical movement; it is a life-style that can infiltrate many aspects of one’s being. From finding yourself stuck in traffic, to doing the dishes to keeping a cool head in work-related meetings. This extends to interpersonal relationships. Even a beginner Yogi should start to feel a deeper connection others based on an increase in their own self-awareness. Yoga allows us all to harness our inner power and come into our authentic selves.
How often do you do yoga?
I practice asana 2-5 times/week, though I do Yoga every day.
Do you eat before or after yoga? What do you usually eat?
I like to eat very lightly before yoga, for example a Vega bar, smoothie or a macrobiotic snack. After my practice I like to fill up on a variety of colourful plant-based foods.
